South Carolina 101

Basically the sister state of North Carolina, they may be quite similar to each but South Carolina had the more spectacular histories among the two. Being colorful as well in history, the state is also known as colorful in a different way as well, due to the number of beautiful gardens and locations all over.

South Carolina was once joined together along with North Carolina until 1729. One of the more spectacular historical events that occurred in South Carolina was the birth of the Civil War. It all began in Fort Sumter in Charleston, which is now a very popular historical landmark. Another historical landmark is Fort Moultrie where you can find the earliest of seacoast defense in America and this is where you can trace back its more than 170 years of history. In just these two areas alone, you can already see the vast and colorful history of The Palmetto State.

Of course, this state is not just all about history; it is also all about family fun and lots of recreational activities. If hiking is your choice, you can hike along the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and perhaps even do a little bit of mountain climbing. If it is the forests and wilderness that you prefer, you can also visit the Congaree National Park. One of the attractions in this national park is bird watching, and it also offers primitive campsites where it really is all back to basics and an all out wilderness camping experience. You can also do canoeing and kayaking through the creeks and rivers that traverse the area. And if you have come to this state for bird watching, you will surely go straight for Bomb Island especially during spring and summer seasons. At these seasons, Purple Martins fly over to this island for the warm season and climate. This area has already been declared a bird sanctuary because of this event. For the green thumbs, drop by Cypress Gardens to see one of the best gardens you can lay your eyes on.

What is South Carolina without its beaches? A lot of family fun and recreation awaits whoever comes and visits the shores of this state. And among the famous locations, Myrtle Beach is one of the most popular of them. Thanks to the shores of South Carolina, it basically governs more than half of the state’s tourism. Either you would just want to sit back and relax or go fishing out to sea, you can have it here. Fishing is also one major sport in this state, and one well known tournament is Professional Bass Fishing, for those fishing enthusiasts out there. If you prefer to fish inland, you can also do so in the Santee Lakes. Who knows, you might just catch one of the largest catfish ever.
